How true that is!
I say this as much to me as anyone else….
If we could stop focusing on what we’d fix in other people and just focus on what we need to fix for ourselves with God… we’d bind together because we’d have love one for another like the Bible tells us to have. Yes, it goes against human nature. But it goes hand in hand with being Christ-like and that’s what we’re striving for anyways!

Compatibility.
I’ve realized lately that you don’t really understand what compatibility is until you start to get into your twenties. Or at least that’s how it’s been for me. There’s something about the teenage years where you think compatibility is synonymous with similarities… that the more that you and someone else have in common, the more compatible you are. Can I say it? That’s not compatibility. And now that I see that, it’s annoying to see teenagers who still believe that falsehood.
I did the same thing, though. In high school, if a guy didn’t like my list of musicians, genres of music, want to live in New York, and dress fashionably, I didn’t think we’d ever, ever work out. And I wasn’t really willing to try anything else. Now there are important things… I stand firm on one day marrying a musician…. and of course spirituality won’t be compromised for me. But it’s so narrow minded to think I could only be with someone who’s like me… and the more like me, the better! I’m not giving myself any room or opportunity to grow that way! You don’t get to have new experiences and learn how to appreciate new things… you both just stay close minded with the things you both like.
So what’s compatibility?
Compatibility is about filling a void, making up for what the other is lacking. What good is it if two outgoing people are together and two shy people are together? The two outgoing ones will both be fighting for the attention of a crowd to where they dominate conversation and the two shy people would never go out and enjoy the company of others! Compatibility is an outgoing person knowing how to encourage the other who is more shy to be a contributing part of a social group, and the shy person holding the outgoing one back when they don’t realize they’re being too forward and saying too much. It’s about listening to new music and trying new foods not so that you can love them too, cause chances are you might not, but so you can appreciate that the person you love loves them. It’s about two people being better because they’re together.
Don’t look for the person who’s just like you in every way. Look for the one who will encourage you to grow and try new things. Look for the person whose strengths are your weaknesses and your strengths their weaknesses.

This week has been interesting, but mainly difficult and extremely trying.
My prayers and Bible have been my constant companions. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to talk to God anywhere and the ability to dive into His word whenever I can!
